Mocavo is a genealogy and ancestry search engine. It’s goal is to bring the world’s genealogical and ancestry records online for free. Mocavo participated in Boulder Techstars in the Summer of 2011, later in 2012 Mocavo recieved a $4.1 million Series A round of funding from the Foundry Group.
Shortly after in June I joined the company as a design intern. I was fairly fresh out of school from CU when I was brought on for the summer as an intern and I couldn’t have been happier to be on the ground floor of a newly funded startup. I worked closely under the art director, first working on banner ads, social media and landing pages.
That fall, I progressed on as a full-time Junior Designer, continuing work on marketing material and Mocavo product. The following months were exciting and fast-pace.The culture of the company allowed for additional learning which allowed me to refine skills of print design, UX testing strategy; while also learning new skills like front-end development and SEO.
The fall of 2013 I assumed position of Art Director. The following months were a whirlwind of restructuring and building new product at an astonishing pace. That summer Mocavo was acquired by the leading British family history company — Findmypast. Mocavo’s acquisition led to new product and features with Findmypast.
